"Eu pensei que você era nigeriano", me disse o colega nigeriano no curso da universidade hoje cedo. Não é a primeira vez que me confundem com alguém da costa atlântica africana. "Há muitos negros no Brasil?", ele continuou. Como eu sei pouco da África, tive a impressão que o desconhecimento entre brasileiros e africanos é mútuo. Por isso, essa semana vamos conversar mais sobre isso. Mas é impressionante (como escrevi antes e vou re-publicar aqui por esses dias) que tive que vir pra Finlândia pra ter contato direto com o pessoal da terra dos meus ancestrais.

"I though you were Nigerian", a coleague told me during a university lecture this morning. It's not the first time someone thinks I am from the atlantic coast of Africa. "Are there many blacks in Brazil?" he continued,. Since I know little about Africa, I had the impression that the lack of awareness between Africans and Brazilians is mutual. For that reason, during this week we will sit and talk more about that. But it is impressive (as I wrote some time ago and will re-publish it here some of these days) that I had to come to Finland to actually meet people from the land of my ancestors.
